Gas Tax Funding helps rebuild Marthaville road

Enniskillen Township, Ontario, August 30, 2006 - Pat Davidson, MP for Sarnia-Lambton, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and Jim Burns, Mayor of the Township of Enniskillen are pleased to announce that the Township of Enniskillen will use federal gas tax to fund the Marthaville Road rebuilding project which will resurface 2.7 km of Enniskillen Township Road. This environmentally sustainable project has incorporated existing asphalt and granular material into the reconstruction of the road.

"I am pleased to see federal gas tax funds at work here in the Township of Enniskillen, addressing important local infrastructure needs," said MP Pat Davidson. "This contribution shows that Canada’s new government is helping to get things done for Ontario’s rural communities."

Mayor Burns said that "gas tax revenue has made it possible for the Township of Enniskillen to continue its efforts to provide a safe transportation system".

In 2005, the Government of Canada signed an agreement with Ontario, the Association of Municipalities of Ontario and the City of Toronto to provide over $1.8 billion in federal gas tax funding, over five years, to cities and communities across Ontario. The Township of Enniskillen will use its year 1 and year 2 allocation of gas tax funding, totalling $63,548, to help finance the Marthaville Road rebuilding project estimated at $385,000.
